Considered one of the wonders of the modern world and a symbol of Australia.
It was composer and conductor Eugene Goossens who came up with the idea for the construction and Jørn Utzon the designer. Construction began in 1954. There were several problems that arose during the construction, one of them is that in order to pay for the work, the government of New South Wales ran a lottery for citizens to help pay for it. After several years, on October 20, 1973 it was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II.
It has the largest mechanical brass instrument in the world, made up of more than 10,000 tubes. It is larger than a football field and is built on what was once a fort to guard the bay.
